Have you ever seen any really precious diamonds? Diamonds have 4 factors, each starting with the letter C, that determine its worth. These factors are cut, color, clarity and carat weight.
The CUT determines the brilliance of the diamond. A diamond's cut grade is an objective measure of a diamond's light performance, or, what we generally think of as sparkle. When a diamond is cut with the proper proportions, light is returned out of the top of the diamond.
The COLOR grade is highest if there is a lack of color. When minerals are present in diamonds they cause a discoloration.
CLARITY is a measure of the number and size of the tiny imperfections that occur in diamonds.
CARAT is specifically a measure of a diamond's weight, and by itself may not accurately reflect a diamond's size. Cut, color and clarity are used to determine a diamonds real carat worth, as a large poor quality diamond is of far less value than a smaller diamond that is pure.
I had my picture taken with the beautiful Castleberry Diamond last week. This diamond has been cut by the Master's hand. I don't see any color (self) or imperfections in this diamond and therefore perceive it to have a high carat weight.
